Artist Bio
Hello! I'm Violet Ruby, a 20-year-old undergraduate artist currently in my third year at Parsons School of Design in New York City, and I am originally from Los Angeles.
At Parsons, I'm studying Fine Arts with a specialization in sculpture, soft sculpture, and textiles/fibers. As a queer creator, my work is deeply rooted in themes of identity, gender expression, and sexuality.
Exploring the complexities of the human body and the dynamics of the gaze, my art delves into the intimate intersection of personal narrative and physicality. Through sculpture and textiles, I seek to transcend the confines of the body, gaining control over something larger than myself.
Central to my artistic exploration is the question of how societal norms shape our perceptions of the body and its inherent vulnerabilities. I challenge viewers to reconsider their preconceptions about the representation of bodies, gender, and sex in contemporary culture.
